Criminal Justice in NJ

Visit the following 3 websites. Respond by 8am on Thursday with at least 3 general questions you have about the criminal justice system, NJ laws and procedures, or local topics and interests.

  1. 1. If someone escapes does the jail immediately send out workers/police to find the runaway? What happens if they do find the runaway? Is their prison time signigicantly longer/harsher?

    2. Does the Drug Rehabilitation Centers for Male and Female Inmates deal with the criminals who are in jail for being caught or involved with drugs or can it also serve criminals who have committed a crime unrelated to abusive drug use, but admit that they need this type of help and are voluntarily seeking it (with proof they really need it)?

    3. In what type of circumstances would a mediator be appropriate?

    price of bail depended upon the degree of the crime?

    2.For the laws directed to the visitors, it states that visitor is not allowed to bring the inmate anything. So, if a mother let’s say, were to visit her son, she would not be allowed to bring him a home cooked meal, a blanket or a pillow? Why?

  25. 1. In Visitation Guidelines for Professionals it states that attorneys, interpreters, clergy and medical or social professionals who desire to visit with a specific inmate must follow certain procedure. Why would clergy be visiting an inmate in prison?
    2. Why list the people who have escaped from prison in such a hidden way, shouldn't that be more important and well known being that someone could recognize them?
